CRSPR Flamethrower
“ | When bullets or blunt force just don't cut it, a sea of roaring, sticky napalm usually does. Practically never explodes in your face. |
— Item Description |
The CRSPR Flamethrower is the Driller's default primary weapon. It is a combat-ready flamethrower which gets its fuel from large tanks inserted into a cage on the side. Its twin pilot lights ignite when firing, and extinguish upon reloading.
The flamethrower emits a stream of fire when the trigger is held, damaging enemies and quickly raising their temperature to ignite them. Creatures lit on fire take damage over time and heat up other nearby creatures, more information about the "On Fire" status here. The flame stream also leaves behind "Sticky Flames" on any surface it touches, sticky flames damage and heat up any enemies who walk through them.
The flamethrower has several other unique interactions; Due to the weapon dealing fire damage, it is especially effective against enemies with a weakness to fire, such as Glacial Strata enemy variants or Mactera enemies. This also means it deals reduced damage against fire resistant enemies, such as the Glyphid Grunt Guard or Glyphid Dreadnought. The flame stream possesses infinite blow-through, allowing it to damage any enemies within its range. The flame stream is not affected by armor and cannot damage it, allowing it to damage enemies through their armor plates.
All types of Dreadnoughts, as well as the Rival Caretaker, cannot be ignited. Igniting any Rival robot, aside from the Prospector Drone, will kill or disable it instantly.

Sticky Flame Heat
The Sticky Flames have an Area Heat Radius of 0.75m, acting as an Environmental Heat Source with an Intensity value of 3. The total heat being applied to any given creature is:
- Heat per Second = [ Current Intensity Temperature per Second ] + 5 x [ Nearby Puddles ]
Most of the time the amount of Heat will simply be 20 + 5 x [ Nearby Puddles ]. The Heat Intensity can be reduced in the presence of Environmental Cooling such as the Blizzards that may occur in the Glacial Strata.
Unique Modifications
Unique Modifications | ||
---|---|---|
Heat Radiance |
Heat Radiance is a modification that causes the Flamethrower to emit an aura of heat onto all enemies within 4 meters, while the trigger is being held. The heat is strong enough to ignite most enemies after 1 second of constant fire, and can expedite the rate at which enemies at very close ranges are ignited by the flamethrower's direct flame or sticky flames. |
|
Targets Explode |
Targets Explode is a modification that gives enemies a 50% chance to explode if killed with direct damage. This damages enemies inside of the 0.5 meter radius of the explosion.

Sticky Fuel |
Sticky Fuel is an overclock that adds a second Damage Over Time (DoT) effect to Sticky Flames with its own tick rate and damage. |
|
Scorching Tide |
Scorching Tide is an Unstable Overclock that shoots several fiery projectiles in a horizontal spread. As the projectiles travel, they penetrate through enemies and leave sticky flames below their path, terminating upon colliding with terrain. The projectile's area damage is dealt every time they hit an enemy, in addition to when colliding with terrain. Scorching Tide's damage does not trigger Targets Explode. |

Trivia
- The CRSPR will melt the environment in Glacial Strata. They can also melt platforms if the Engineer who placed them has the Plastcrete MKII modification.
- "CRSPR" is a play on the word "crisper", referring to the weapon's ability to burn creatures to a crisp.
- The CRSPR will burn through Organic Material on Egg Hunt missions.
- Mission Control, in his comments when the player completes the assignment to unlock the Colette Wave Cooker, implied that the CRSPR was once used to cook food in the lunchroom, which likely ended poorly for everyone involved given how he called it "the flamethrower incident in the lunchroom."
