Glyphid Crassus Detonator
“ | A close cousin of the Glyphid Detonator, but displaying an exceptionally thrilling mutation. It is every bit as lethal as its cousin, releasing the same devastating shockwaves and blowing up with a blast in the kiloton range, but - instead of glassing the surrounding environment on account of the tremendous heat released, a most peculiar chemical reaction occurs. Everything caught in the blast radius of an exploding Crassus Detonator turns to gold. Incredible. |
— Miner's Manual |
The Glyphid Crassus Detonator is a hostile creature found on Hoxxes IV. It can spawn in any region of the planet, but its spawn is tied to level generation. It has a 3% chance to spawn at the beginning of the mission and roams around the caves towards the dwarves. The Glyphid Crassus Detonator is commonly referred to as a "Crassus" or a "Crassus Detonator". It will appear in missions after the Conquer Hoxxes IV Assignment has been completed.
Described by the Miner's Manual as a mutation of the original Bulk Detonator, the Crassus is very similar in appearance and behavior. The biggest and most obvious difference is its whole body being covered in a layer of Gold - this Gold serves as a type of armor which reduces direct damage by 60% and cannot be broken. Additionally, only one Crassus Detonator can spawn per mission, unlike the Glyphid Bulk Detonator.
The Crassus Detonator will also explode violently in the same manner as the Bulk Detonator, but with a key difference: The 13-meter crater it leaves behind will be coated in a layer of solid Gold, which can be mined and deposited. The amount of Gold created depends on how much terrain is caught at the edge of its blast radius - catching the Crassus Detonator within a narrow tunnel will result in a larger amount of Gold. Killing the Crassus Detonator while it is near the back wall of a Driller or Pickaxe tunnel will yield a near-maximal amount of Gold: about 1230 (without Pots O' Gold). If the Crassus Detonator dies while it is frozen, its death explosion will not produce Gold.
Aside from these differences, the Crassus Detonator behaves in the exact same way as a regular Bulk Detonator, so any strategies that work for the Bulk can also tame a Crassus quite effectively.

When it comes to dealing damage to break the weakpoints weakpoint damage don’t apply.
Any Area Damage can damage and potentially break them, which can be detrimental since they don’t benefit from weakpoint damage.
The CRSPR Flamethrower and the Cryo Cannon can’t damage breakable weakpoints.

Trivia
- The Glyphid Crassus Detonator is a reference to Roman general and politician Marcus Licinius Crassus, who was known as one of the wealthiest men of his time. According to legend, when his body was recovered by his enemies after he died in a battle, they poured liquid gold into his mouth to taunt his wealth and greed.
- The Crassus Detonator has the highest base health of any creature in the game at 6000 HP. This can scale all the way up to 9000 HP on a Hazard 5 mission with four players.
- When the Crassus Detonator explodes, all terrain and platforms in a 6.5-meter radius are destroyed. All terrain and platforms between 6.5 meters and 6.75 meters away are turned to gold, leaving some portion of a 0.25-meter-thick spherical shell of Gold.
- Ignoring the effects of Pots O' Gold, the theoretical maximum gold yield of a Crassus Detonator explosion is 1271 gold, but this has yet to be experimentally confirmed. This is only achievable if the region intersecting the spherical shell described above is completely filled with terrain or platforms. This is extremely difficult to achieve, as completely enclosing the Crassus Detonator will cause it to teleport.
- The cluster bombs released by a Crassus Detonator as it explodes will break any terrain they hit, as well as chunks of the Gold crater. This Gold is not destroyed and can be picked up by players, but it will not benefit from Pots O' Gold.
- In earlier builds of Deep Rock Galactic, there was a cut attribute to the Golden Final Blow. All properties were the same as the current iteration, with the only difference being that instead of the explosion creating standard Gold, a special version of Gold would be created instead, known as "Melted Gold". It would grant the same amounts of Gold as its counterpart, except that it would take only a single Pickaxe hit to mine and harvest. This special cut version of Gold can be assumed to take only a single hit due to how large and oddly structured the golden explosion can be, making the mining process much easier and more streamlined. However, due to Melted Gold being its own unique resource, it was not affected by Pots O' Gold.
