The Patrol Bot is a defensive drone from a Rival Company, with versatile traversal options in combat covering both ground and air. It shoots a plasma laser from the particle accelerator placed inside its "head" - which is also its weakspot. Its metal exterior makes this a durable, tough enemy, but the firewall protecting its AI software is easy to bypass, making it a perfect target for your state-of-the-art Hacking Device.
— Miner's Manual Description

The Rival Patrol Bot will be found in places where a Prospector Drone has been attacked, during Industrial Sabotage missions, in the Rival Presence mutator, or during the hacking of a Prospector Data Deposit, all while being commonly accompanied by Shredders. It will hover around and evade attacks while providing gunfire with its turret acting as a head.

Being a part of the rival technology it has very distinct circuitry lining across its body, with the glowing orange circuitry being most noticeable on its head. The head has a barrel on the front which is used to deliver shots. The body structure consists of several rings in the middle, a sphere used for ground movement, while flying with legs similar to the M.U.L.E.’s but with small engines.

There is a chance that killing a Patrol Bot will not cause it to explode and it will instead simply float to the ground with a white circuited head, emitting greenish light. If this happens, Dwarves have 30 seconds to approach the bot and use their Hacking Device to hack it and turn it into an ally. In this state, it will fly around and target enemies, similar to the tamed Glyphids when using the Beast Master perk. If the bot remains unhacked for longer than 30 seconds, it will explode which ends up killing it. Patrol Bots spawned during the Caretaker fight cannot become hackable.

Even though the Patrol Bot's airborne nature gives it great advantage against most enemies native to Hoxxes IV, it still has health and can be destroyed - which is pertinent since ranged enemies such as Mactera, hostile Patrol Bots or stationary Rival turrets will prioritize hacked Patrol Bots over the dwarves. In addition, a hacked Patrol Bot constantly loses health at a slow rate, which naturally limits its lifespan.

There is no hard limit on how many allied Patrol Bots there can be at the same time, but the more of them the team has, the lower the chances are that another Patrol Bot will become hackable.

Combat

Patrol Bots are fairly mobile and will fly up to attack Dwarves like Mactera Spawn. They alternate between bursts of fire and aiming single fire shots at players from their head turrets. Patrol Bots are also capable of rarely launching a volley of homing missiles at dwarves. If damaged enough they will fly around erratically and reposition themselves. It is capable of using the hover ball device under it to perform a quick evasive roll across the ground.

Once killed, a Patrol Bot will drop to the ground and quickly roll around randomly, exploding after a short delay (unless it becomes hackable). The Patrol Bot will instantly die if its Heat Meter is filled.
