The Korlok Tyrant-Weed is a hideous agglomeration of near-sentient plants, working together as one. At the center, the armored, clam-like heart of the whole structure, a biological factory pulsing with ill intent. Surrounding it, watchful, aggressive sprouts, ready to fire globules of stinging ichor at any adversary. The Heart-Clam will continually attempt to spawn new sprouts, so be sure to take the damn thing out when it opens up to give birth.
— Miner's Manual Description

The Korlok Tyrant-Weed is a mini-boss found in any biome and on any mission type except Point Extraction. There is a 5% chance per mission for the Tyrant-Weed to spawn, and only 1 will spawn per mission. The Tyrant-Weed is found surrounded by Korlok Sprouts, which have a spit attack similar to the Spitball Infector's attack. Killing enough of these will expose its heart. The Tyrant-Weed also will periodically spawn Healing Pods, which slowly regenerate its health.

The Tyrant-Weed only becomes active and begins attacking the Dwarves whenever it is attacked or a Dwarf comes close (roughly 10m) to the Tyrant-Weed itself. Walking up to the Korlok Sprouts will not cause the boss to become aggressive. If an aggressive Tyrant-Weed is ignored and all dwarves are distant from its location, it will eventually become inactive again until it is disturbed once more but will be much easier to provoke than the initial confrontation.

Combat

The Tyrant-Weed originally starts out in a dormant state where the Tyrant-Weed and all Korlok Sprouts around it are inactive. Whenever it is attacked or a Dwarf comes within roughly 10m of the Tyrant-Weed itself (not the Sprouts) the Tyrant-Weed will become aggressive, causing all of the sprouts around it to begin attacking the Dwarves which also causes the Tyrant-Weed's boss health bar to become visible.

The Korlok Tyrant-Weed itself does not attack the Dwarves directly, only being able to attack through the use of the Sprouts surrounding it. The Tyrant-Weed is immune to all damage but can be made temporarily vulnerable by killing a specific amount of Sprouts, which causes the boss to open and reveal its "heart". While the Tyrant-Weed is opened it becomes vulnerable to damage for a short time. Shooting the Tyrant-Weed's heart is the only way to deal damage to the boss. Whenever the Tyrant-Weed opens up and becomes vulnerable it will also spawn more Korlok sprouts to replace the ones the Dwarves killed. The boss' health is split into 3 health bars. Whenever the boss loses its first health bar it will begin spawning Healing Pods whenever it opens up.

Each time the Tyrant-Weed's heart opens, it spawns Korlok Sprouts and (when below 2/3rds health) also spawn Healing Pods. The Korlok Sprouts attack with a green spit projectile that flies along a straight path, which can be destroyed by shooting at it. Healing Pods do not attack but will regenerate the heart's health. The healing pods cannot heal the Tyrant-Weed higher than the current 1/3rd of the health bar.

Upon death, all currently alive Korlok sprouts and Healing pods will instantly die and The Tyrant-Weed will drop three Tyrant Shards, which give a total of 1050 Credit.png and 1500 Experience Points (multiplied by the Hazard Bonus) at the end of a mission when deposited.

Trivia

  • Despite the Korlok's opened bud appearing as a weakpoint, it is not, and will thus not benefit from any weakpoint damage mods or other benefits.
  • When a Korlok Sprout is on fire, it is unable to attack.
  • Doretta is able to destroy a Tyrant-Weed if she runs it over, even if it is closed.
