Sandblasted Corridors

From Deep Rock Galactic Wiki

This region is dominated by windblasted and arid tunnels reaching dozens of miles below ground. The particular composition of the surrounding rock means practically no moisture, resulting in one of the driest regions of the planet. With water being so precious, the inhabiting wildlife is particularly aggressive, ravenous for whatever fluids reside within their prey.
— Ingame description

Sandblasted Corridors is one of the biomes of Hoxxes IV. The walls are made of a soft, sandstone-like rock which is mined easily with a single pickaxe hit. However, the caverns are very empty, containing giant fossilized bones and barely any vegetation whatsoever. The caves are wasted by strong winds, either from forceful windy tunnels or visibility-reducing sandstorms. The sandstone making up the caves is very soft, taking a single hit for it to give way.

Hazards

There are a few hazards exclusive to Sandblasted Corridors.

One are the wind tunnels, holes in the walls which periodically blast heavy gusts of wind from them, launching any Dwarf unfortunate enough to be in their path away with great force. Sandstorms, which occasionally blow through the caverns, do not damage the Dwarves, but force them to move at a slower speed for the duration of the storm. The sand and dust will also greatly reduce visibility to a mere few meters in front of them. Creatures only have their movement speed affected, making sandstorms potentially extremely dangerous.

The Deeptora Honeycomb contains hostile insect swarms. Once approached, the bugs will swarm the Dwarves and attack them. The swarms can be damaged by fire or explosives; the honeycomb itself can also be destroyed, at which point the swarms will dissipate. Finally the Nayaka Trawler, a burrowing reptilian creature with a scaly body adorned with spikes. The Trawler's body is well adapted to cruising through the sands of the Corridors at high speeds. While moving, the majority of its body is concealed underneath the sand. It can use natural slopes in the environment to launch off of, gaining lots of air time in the process. It makes snarling noises as it approaches a foe, crashing into them with great force. Being attacked by a Trawler will cause a Dwarf to go flying. Alongside their tackle, Trawlers can also attempt to grab Dwarves and swim away with them.

Sandstorm

A Sandstorms start can be detected by the slow change in visibility, which lasts 15 seconds, right after that, the storm itself will start, making Dwarves x0.8 slower, and creatures x0.9 slower, as well as drastically reducing Dwarf vision, it usually lasts for 30 seconds, with visibility gradually getting back to normal, and ending after 10 seconds. The start (in seconds) of the first Sandstorm of a mission is decided by squaring a value between 3 and 50, with later storms having a delay of 5 - 15 minutes.

Enemies

Most enemies can be encountered in the Sandblasted Corridors, including Spitball Infectors, Cave Leeches, and Glyphid Dreadnoughts.

The Nayaka Trawler is unique to this biome.
