Jet Boots
A Jet Boot Crate is a navy blue crate with a large latch on the top. It can be found in any region and mission type except Deep Scan. It emits a constant beeping sound to help the players locate it. Once the crate has been found, it will appear on the terrain scanner as a pink box.
Once located, a player must interact with the crate and complete a Jetty Boot minigame (analogous to the hacking minigame, but instead styled after the Abyss Bar's Jetty Boot machine) to open it. The minigame takes a moment to complete, during which time the player is unable to use other tools and weapons. Once the crate has been opened, players can hold [Activate] to equip a pair of MKI Jet Boots, granting them basic flight capabilities for the rest of the mission.
Spawning
Each mission has a 10% chance to spawn a Jet Boot Crate, depending on the mission seed. This includes each separate stage of a Deep Dive or Elite Deep Dive. Only one Jet Boot Crate can appear in each mission or stage.
Usage
Once the Jet Boots are equipped, Dwarfs can fly by holding the jump button while in midair. Using the boots will cause them to generate heat, as visible by a gauge on the left side of the player's crosshair. The gauge will fill as the boots are used, gradually decrease when not in use, and if it reaches the top the boots will overheat, indicated by a voice line and the gauge turning red. This will cause the boots to stop working for a certain period until they have cooled down.
Additionally, Jet Boots apply Heat to creatures in an area below them when in use:
- Damage per Tick: 20 Heat
- Tick Interval: 0.25-0.5s
- Additional Heat: Environmental Heat Source Level 3 (+20°/s until reaching 100°)
- Movement Speed: x0.8
- Duration: Until 0.25s after leaving Jet Boots exhaust
Variants
- MKI Jet Boots are the standard boots found in Jet Boot Crates.
- Max Vertical Speed: 100m/s
- Heating Rate: 15/s
- Cooling Delay: 1.5s
- Cooling Rate: 2.35/s
- Overheat Duration: 20s
- MKII Jet Boots are an enhanced variant exclusively found during the extraction phase of Deep Scan missions. This variant is equipped from the Drillevator rather than a crate, and does not require the player(s) to complete the Jetty Boot minigame. This variant has faster acceleration and faster heat recovery, allowing uninterrupted flight.
- Max Vertical Speed: 17m/s
- Heating Rate: 12/s
- Cooling Delay: 0.5s
- Cooling Rate: 45/s
*The Maximum Heat before overheating is not precisely known, but appears to be ~47 based on the rate of change of the Jet Boots UI.
