Initial bio-analyses suggest this creature carries little to no relation to any Hoxxes organism currently known to the Deep Rock Galactic Corporation. While likely native to the planet, it appears to stem from somewhere deeper than we've reached with our mining operations. R&D is calling it the 'Crawler,' and notes that its speed and agility make it a considerable threat, especially in numbers. Crawlers are called forth by Core Stones -- so if you encounter one, disable it immediately and bring it back for further testing.
— Miner's Manual Description

The Core Spawn Crawler (often shortened to Crawler) is a hostile creature found on Hoxxes IV. It exclusively appears during Core Stone events, and hence can be found in every biome.

Unusual in appearance for a creature of Hoxxes, it bears a rough, purple, humanoid body with pink gradients and light grey, spike-shaped protrusions jutting out of its hips, elbows, back and nape, along with clawed hands and feet. Its face loosely resembles the upper portion of a human skull, complete with small, yellow pupils in its eye sockets. The creature's mouth is actually made up of its entire head, with both sides of its face opening sideways to act as the upper jaw while the lower jaw opens just below.

Combat

Crawlers are exclusively found during Core Stone events, where they spawn in great numbers from strange rifts. They are incredibly agile, possessing the ability to leap great distances, used to both chase down their target and to quickly retreat. Once a Crawler reaches their target they make use of their Slash attack to inflict heavy damage. After successfully attacking, Crawlers will hastily retreat to a safe distance before once again chasing down their target.

Crawlers continue to be dangerous even after death. Once killed, a Crawler drops a glob of hazardous purple goop. This goop persists after hitting a surface, becoming a puddle of Vestigial Rift Distortion, damaging any player that comes into contact with it.

Health and Armor

Crawlers possess a weakspot on their face, hidden beneath two plates of heavy armor. This armor, unlike any other breakable armor, fully blocks damage even when broken by a weapon with an armor breaking modification equipped.

Trivia

  • In their bio, Core Spawn Crawlers are suggested to be beings from much deeper within Hoxxes, summoned using rifts created by the sentient Core Stone.
  • Some official sources, such as the Season 05 update log and the dwarves' in-game subtitles, refer to the creature as a "Corespawn Crawler", whereas its Miner's Manual entry labels it as a "Core Spawn Crawler". The creature's official name out of these two is debatable.
